Local 3 United Storeworkers RWDSU

Steward's Bulletin

August 18, 2010

TO: All Executive Board Members and Local 3 Union Stewards
FROM: Ida Torres & Cassandra A. Berrocal

A. The number of associates discharged for TIA reasons demands that we all understand that under no circumstances should an associate “clock” another associate in or out.
B. Remind all the members of your crew that every transaction, whether a sale, a return or an adjustment is permanently recorded and subject to review by Loss Prevention. Therefore, authorization must be obtained to transact any variables.

II. The Annual Labor Mass will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 8:30 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 5th Avenue and 50th Street. All Local 3 members are invited to attend this ceremony during which we ask the Lord’s blessing upon laboring men and women regardless of race, color, creed, age, sex or sexual orientation.

III. The new health care laws recently signed by President Obama will at last provide affordable health care coverage to millions of American workers. Gone are the days when insurance companies could deny coverage because of a pre-existing condition. Children can now be covered up to age 26 by their parent’s insurance. Organized labor continues to lobby for better health care opportunities for all working people and continues to support political candidates who are prepared to vote for workers’ rights.

IV. HEADS UP ALERT… Local 3 has arranged for special GED classes and for English as a second language classes for those members who wish to improve themselves. The Consortium for Worker Education has been servicing the organized labor community for over 30 years by providing skills training classes such as computer training, ESL, GED and other skills to enhance workers’ ability to get higher paying jobs. More information will follow. Over 300 Local 3 members have benefited from computer training classes as part of the Consortium’s program.
