April 24, 2012
The Demonstration mounted by Bloomingdale’s workers last Wednesday, April 18, 2012 sent a powerful message to Bloomingdale’s/Macy’s Inc. Management about the critical importance of negotiating a fair and just labor agreement with the members of Local 3 United Storeworkers RWDSU/UFCW.
An overwhelming majority of the membership rallied in support of the Union’s program during the three (3) hour demonstration for improved wages, earnings opportunities and to save the workers’ health care plan that has served thousands of Union members and their families since 1950 or another Union health care alternative.
The worker’s Demonstration was hailed by the press, supported by the public, New York City, and New York State organized labor. Bloomingdale’s 59th Street is a financially successful Store due to a large measure to the hard work performed by the members of Local 3.
Negotiations took place over the weekend with Management Representatives, and are still ongoing.
The Union and its members want only what is fair. The Union and its members want respect on the job and fair compensation for making Bloomingdale’s 59th Street “LIKE NO OTHER STORE IN THE WORLD”.
Please share the attached information with the members of your crew and all Local 3 members.
Yours in Union Solidarity,
Cassandra A. Berrocal
